Best scores were 184 and 188 over 8 games at lunch. I am still hoping for an Xmas miracle.

213

Bowled a 213 last night. Got that fine score in hour two of the marathon session. Something like 4 pins didn't drop over three frames. Had they went down I would have got another 3 strikes, all that I needed to get ≥254. Soooo close.

I may be needing a ever so slight wind assist like I when I got my 320 yard drive on Fryer Farms. I will ask to have the doors left open today.

Building, building, building...

Bowled 188, 200, 174 and a 200 today at lunch. My new plan is to have the whole alley to myself to limit the distracting yakking with other bowlers, so I went to lunch at 10:45. Based on today this may be the the key to good scores, though not necessarily for good long-term career growth. If bowling quietude doesn't work I will implement Jennifer's fine suggestion of adding bowling hours by just hanging out in the alley. She helpfully noticed that there seems to be a positive correlation between time spent there and my score. Must check to see if they rent the alleys by the week...

The scuttlebutt at the alley is they just replaced all the pins. Ergo, this 178 would have been 254 had the game not changed on me. This means when I get my 254, it will really be a 354 at an alley with more seasoned pins.

Three more hours toward the 10,000 required

After three hours of bowling and 12 games, I have come to the conclusion that the pins at this bowling alley are not regulation weight, definitely bottom heavy. Either that or 19 hours of practice (plus probably another 5 hours not recoreded herein) is not enough to increase my score by much. I'm sure it's a combination of both.

Clearly, the solution to knocking over bowling pins composed of concrete is more leg strength and some fresh air, which I got here at Big Bear

Until this happened. Damnit.

According to Malcom Gladwell, it takes 10,000 hours of practice to become world class at anything. I am just shooting for a one time impressive score for bragging rights. This will probably be less than 10,000 hours. Ergo, the new line on the graph. That new line will be the definitive data describing how long you must practice to be able to shoot your mouth off with some assurance that, in the right company, you will have a score the top 1% will be impressed with. I wonder what Gladwell's e-mail is...
